In the Eurostars project INSPIRE, Fenix Energy, TS Elino, and Metalot are developing compact hardware for circular energy hubs with capacities of up to 1 MW. These hubs generate CO₂-free energy through the oxidation (combustion) of iron powder and recharge via reduction using (green) hydrogen. The result is a scalable, zero-emission solution for industrial heat, decentralized energy generation, and seasonal storage—addressing grid congestion and the lack of long-term storage options.
Iron powder is safe, transportable, and fully circular. The system reuses materials within a closed-loop cycle and offers a reliable alternative for high-temperature processes that are difficult to electrify. INSPIRE breaks down both technological and commercial barriers, laying the foundation for a new standard in renewable energy.
As an ecosystem builder, Metalot coordinates the system integration of the energy hub. We investigate how oxidation and reduction modules can work together seamlessly, what organizational and financing structures are required, and which regulatory adjustments would accelerate the rollout. In addition, we share knowledge within the international Iron Power Community.

Fenix Energy (France): compact and efficient oxidation modules
TS Elino (Germany): scalable reduction technology using green hydrogen
Metalot (Netherlands): system integration, organization, financing, and regulation
The project is supported by Eurostars, the European program for innovation and sustainability, and represents a cross-border collaboration between the Netherlands, France, and Germany.
INSPIRE directly contributes to SDG 7 (affordable and sustainable energy), SDG 9 (innovation and infrastructure), and SDG 13 (climate action). Successful development paves the way for energy-independent industries and local communities.
